"What is it in calamansi that it's mixed with everything?" That's the question posed by my former college classmate. According to him, almost everything you see in the Philippines has a "touch of calamansi". Noodles, soy sauce, dishwashing liquid… even laundry soaps have calamansi!

So what is in calamansi??

According to the Department of Agriculture, calamansi is "rich in phosphorous, calcium, iron and Vitamin C". They also added this:

"With its alkalinizing effect, on the body calamansi helps circulate blood evenly and facilitates normal digestion"

OK. Alright. Calamansi is good for the body… but why is it in soaps?

When thought about, it is like calamansi has "special powers" to be put into dishwashing liquids and laundry soaps. Maybe, due to its sourness, spoils and stains are erased, Maybe also due to sourness that it can kill germs…

…but why not oranges or vinegar for that matter?

Many would say oranges would leave a stain… and vinegar smells ugly. But, even calamansi leaves a stain and also smells bad (yeah, go try sniffing a calamansi and let's see if you don't go crying due to its smell and sourness).

Is calamansi fragrant? Hayy… it'll be hard if it would only be me giving an opinion.

So what is it in calamansi??? Hayy… as far as I know, calamansi will forever be part of the Filipino culture. Even if I die, calamansi will be eternally rejoiced and mixed with everything under the sun.

You want a calamansi-flavored ice cream?
